The Sydney Kings will be the next Australian outfit to have a crack at an NBA side as they travel to Hawaii where they have a genuine chance to surprise against the Los Angeles Clippers. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 11:30am (AEST).

The Kings have had a huge off-season with the signature of star centre and former number one NBA draft pick Andrew Bogut being one of the biggest moments for Australian hoops in history.

Sydney have built a ridiculously strong squad around Bogut as well.

Kevin Lisch and Jerome Randle are back for another season, while the signatures of Daniel Kickert and David Wear add untold firepower to the front court. Brad Newley completes the likely starting group, and it’s going to take a lot to beat them throughout the NBL season.

In saying that, they have struggled a little bit on defence during the pre-season, with their effort during the NBL blitz raising a few eyebrows.

If they are to beat the Clippers, they will need to be near perfect on that side of the court, however, they have an advantage in that they only have to fly to Hawaii, rather than all the way to the USA.

The Clippers will be out to get their pre-season off to a strong start as well after an indifferent 2017-18.

They should be viewing this as something of a challenge and a good game to test themselves after the summer break.

Patrick Beverly and Avery Bradley are the keys once the season starts. Their control over the team from the back court will be crucial, although Beverly is injured at the moment and not expected to play against Sydney at this early point of the pre-season.

Marcin Gortat may have the toughest challenge in this game though, dealing with Andrew Bogut. If he can’t effectively stop the inside-out passing game of the Aussie centre, Jerome Randle and Kevin Lisch could have a field day in the face of players they will feel confident in dealing with.

Prediction
It’s impossible to tip one of the NBL teams really, but this is shaping as the best chance for a win. This will be close all the way to the finish line.

Clippers by 4.
