Test cricket heads to Canberra for the first time, with Australia looking to wrap up a clean sweep of Sri Lanka in what is their final red-ball match before the Ashes. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 10:30am (AEDT).

The first Test, played in Brisbane under lights, saw Australia unsurprisingly romp to a dominant victory inside three days.

Maybe how quickly things wrapped up was unexpected, but the end result certainly wasn’t, with Sri Lanka struggling against a swinging ball on a green and bouncy deck at the Gabba.

The Aussies needed the confidence boost though, given they came into this series having been soundly beaten by India, and were down on form.

It’s been a rough year for Australian cricket, but new talent is starting to emerge and the fight for spots on the Ashes tour later this year.

For that reason, runs in this final Test of the series are crucial for players who haven’t cemented their spot in the team, like Kurtis Patterson, Joe Burns, Marnus Labuschagne and even Travis Head, who was made co-vice-captain before the Gabba match.

Runs should be easy enough to come by in Canberra though, with a flat pitch expected to be served up.

Sri Lanka come into this Test with at least two changes to make, given both of their opening bowlers – Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha Chameera – will be missing through injury.

Their bowlers weren’t the biggest problem in Brisbane, with their batting collapsing twice to ensure the tourists lost by an innings.

They struggled against Jhye Richardson and Pat Cummins, but with proven Test performers like Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis, being rolled on a flatter pitch in Canberra is less likely.

That said, it’s hard to see them competing with the home side here.

Prediction
It’s tough to see this going any other way than an Australian victory, and probably another crushing one, although the toss could have a little bit to do with exactly where this ends up.
