Australia can claim victory in their T20 series against Sri Lanka tonight if they win the third game in Canberra. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:10pm AEDT.
The home side was lucky to get away with a Super Over win in Game 2 when scores were tied after 40-overs. Sri Lanka almost pulled off a miracle and were controversially denied a wide call in the final over bowled by Marcus Stoinis which would have swung the game in their favour.
Despite the loss, the tourists will have confidence from pushing the world champions and Sri Lanka have improved in the course of the two games.
The side still needs to work on how it deals with the middle overs with the bat – particularly when facing Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood. Hazlewood has been at his miserly best in the series and the Sri Lankans have found it almost impossible to get boundaries off him.
It was a crazy final over of the match and one of the talking points was the effort by Steve Smith to try and stop a six on the boundary. He smashed his head into the SCG synthetic turf over the boundary while attempting the save. As a precaution he’s been ruled out for the rest of the series to give him every chance of being able to play in Pakistan for the Tests.
Australia haven’t been at their best and still have two wins under their belt. They’ll be confident in wrapping up the series on what is usually a good pitch for batting.
