It’s do or die for South Africa in their final match of the T20 World Cup group stage: beat England by enough, and they can leapfrog Australia into a semi-final spot. Join The Roar for live scores from 1am (AEDT).

The fate of this match, and the Proteas’ chances, will depend on the preceding match, in which Australia host the West Indies. Should the Aussies win, the Proteas will not just have to become the first team this tournament to take down England, but do it by enough for their net run rate to shoot past Aaron Finch’s team. Should they lose, and all they’ll have to do is win to make it through.

Doing either will be no easy task, however; perhaps only Pakistan has dominated this tournament to a greater degree than England to date. With Jos Buttler in imperious form, the ODI World Cup champions have had four comfortable wins out of four to sit pretty atop Group A. Their dismantling of Australia last week was perhaps the best single performance at this tournament to date, Buttler’s 32-ball 71 just as impressive as his century against Sri Lanka a few days later.

Australia will be hoping to have already taken care of their own destiny, but an England win would, short of a thumping loss to the Windies, just about secure the Aussies second spot in the group. Can they swallow their pride and bring themselves to barrack for the Poms?
