The Hobart Hurricanes will take on the Melbourne Stars in the seventh game of the Big Bash League this season, with both teams featuring in the second game of the tournament. The game will begin at 3:45pm AEDT and you can follow it live with The Roar below.
The Melbourne Stars will be gunning for their first win after losing their opening match of the tournament, but to be fair to the Stars, it was a rain-affected game that they were left with a lot to do.
They looked to have bowled well to begin, having had the Sydney Thunder to 99 for four in the 13th over before Jason Sangha ran off with the match.
Even chasing 182 might not have been that difficult on that surface, but for the rain that pelted down the Canberra ground which meant they were left with 90 to get from eight overs. The Glenn Maxwell-side failed to get anywhere close despite Nick Larkin’s late fireworks.
In their previous clash in BBL07, the Stars registered a three-wicket win at the MCG. Batting first, the Hurricanes posted 185/7 on the scoreboard, before the Stars overhauled that total in 19.1 overs.
What the Stars need is for Maxwell, Jonno Dean, Ben Dunk and Marcus Stoinis to get going in the BBL, having not had the best of starts – again, with the caveat they were expected to go berserk from ball one in that eight-over chase.
The Stars will also helped by the fact they have two wrist spinners in the form of Adam Zampa and Sandeep Lamichhane, both of whom might concede a few runs but are not immune from picking up wickets.
With Dwayne Bravo also in their set-up, what the Stars might need is a more defensive bowler, one who can play the restricting role
The Hurricanes kick-started their campaign with a 15-run victory against Brisbane Heat, thanks to an all-round concerted effort from their batsmen and bowlers.
Led by D’Arcy Short’s 67, the Hurricanes got themselves a middling 6/159 from the 20 overs. The Heat, despite possessing a line-up that boasted of some of the hardest hitters of the game, did not get close enough.
And that was down to James Faulkner’s three-fer, and two wickets apiece for Jofra Archer, Johan Botha and Riley Meredith.
Archer, especially, would be one of the bowlers to watch given his propensity to not just pick up wickets but also make scoring tough and the ability to bowl during the death overs.
Melbourne Stars lead the head to head 6-2 against the Hurricanes and that should give them a huge edge going into this game.
Prediction
Two bowling-strong units could see the batting get tested and a low-scoring contest could be in the offing with the Stars expected to win.
