The Melbourne Renegades will be looking to bounce back against the Adelaide Strikers at GMHBA Stadium after a last-start derby loss. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:15pm (AEDT).
Despite still being in the early parts of the Big Bash, this is a massive game for both sides. The Renegades and the Strikers both sit outside the top four with four points each.
With the exception of the Hobart Hurricanes, who are currently unbeaten, the competition is wide open and the early wins will prove crucial in terms of qualifying for finals. This is a game neither side will want to drop.
When analysing the in-form players for both sides, this clash does have the potential to be a blockbuster.
It’s important to remember that these teams have already met at the Adelaide Oval, and it was a high-scoring clash which the Renegades claimed. We already have a sample of perhaps what to expect.
The Melbourne side are getting a fair return from their opening batsmen in Sam Harper and Mackenzie Harvey. Both the youngsters have been thrown into the deep end with Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch on Test duty, but they have both looked at home.
Dan Christian has also been in some good form through the middle overs with the stick, but the red half of Melbourne will be looking for more from Cameron White and Mohammad Nabi, who no doubt are match-winners on their day.
Cameron Boyce was sensational against the Stars two days ago, snaring two out of the three wickets the Renegades took. That does highlight, though, that the bowlers need to improve against this Adelaide side.
If the bowlers do not lift, then the likes of Alex Carey, Jake Weatherald and Colin Ingram will make them pay the full price.
There is no denying the Strikers batting is strong, but one cannot forget the pace bowling line-up of Michael Neser, Billy Stanlake and Ben Laughlin.
Then there’s spin maestro Rashid Khan, who will play again tonight despite the death of his father only a few days ago.
On paper, both these sides promise an entertaining game.
Prediction
Despite being the away side, the Strikers will just have too much for the Renegades.
There is plenty to like about what the red half of Melbourne are doing, but the Strikers are reigning champions, and that experience will prove invaluable in a game they need to win.
Adelaide Strikers to win.
