Defending champions the Melbourne Renegades will look to revive their season against in-form rivals the Melbourne Stars at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 7:10pm (AEDT).
It was close but not close enough for the Renegades against the Sixers two days ago, as they failed to defend 153 runs with one ball remaining despite another good effort from their bowling attack.
Renegades batsmen Aaron Finch, Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh and Dan Christian need to start hitting substantial runs if Melbourne are to give themselves the best chance of securing that elusive first win of the season.
Harper, in particular, was well on his way to scoring a large total against the Sixers, only to needlessly give his wicket away with a loose shot after hitting the Sixers to the boundary on numerous occasions in quick succession.
The Renegades need to put in a 40-over effort with no lulls in concentration if they hope to get a win over the in-form Stars.
The Stars are sitting pretty with four wins with just one loss with key figures Marcus Stoinis, Dale Steyn, Adam Zampa, Haris Rauf and Glenn Maxwell all pitching in with solid performances so far.
Rauf has been one of the finds of the BBL summer. He is coming off another three-wicket haul against the Hurricanes and has firmly established himself as a key figure in the Stars’ line-up alongside the legendary Steyn.
Prediction
The Stars are well on course to secure their fifth win here if Rauf, Zampa and Steyn continue to build on their good form with the ball. The Renegades at their best can certainly make a match of this and having come so close against the Sixers, just maybe the Renegades are finally due to put in the complete performance required to secure their first win of the campaign.
