The Sydney Cricket Ground gears up to host the 52nd match of this year’s Big Bash League between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades. Be sure to tune in to The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match at 3:40pm (AEDT).
The home side, Sydney Sixers, are currently positioned at the No.2 spot on the table and have won their previous two games to seal a berth in the finals. This promises to be a crucial game for the Sixers and, if they manage to make it three in three, they will be granted a second chance in the finals.
They recently overpowered a strong-looking Brisbane Heat side through a clinical overall performance. The Sixers’ bowling battery restricted the Heat to a meager 126 for eight, before Josh Phillipe and James Vince combined to chase down the target with considerable ease.
Phillipe, in particular, has been their star performer throughout the tournament and has been their leading run-scorer, too. Tom Curran, the Englishman, has been vital for the Sydney-native team because of his all-round prowess.
Sydney have decided to make one change from the squad that won against the Heat as Josh Hazlewood comes in for Ben Manenti.
Melbourne Renegades, on the contrary, have already been ruled out of finals contention. They couldn’t make it three out of three wins as they suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Hobart Hurricanes. The reigning champions, though, look to have settled into their groove and can cause headaches for a high-quality Sixers lineup.
Chasing a tricky 191, the Renegades started off valiantly but lost the plot in the latter half of the innings and came short by just four runs. They will be bolstered with the return of Aaron Finch, who was in India on international duty.
The Renegades have made a host of changes, with Beau Webster and pacers Kane Richardson, Brayden Stepien and Zak Evans also being recalled. Shaun Marsh is sidelined due to a hamstring injury, while Sam Harper is also not in the squad following the nasty collision he encountered during the previous game.
The deck at the SCG usually offers a intriguing battle between bat and ball with a little bit in it for everyone. In the four completed games at the venue this season, however, the average 1st innings score is only 125. Windy conditions with some light showers before the game are expected.
