Yet to win in 2020, the Sydney Thunder will look to get their season back on track when they host the Hobart Hurricanes at Sydney Showground Stadium on Saturday evening. Join The Roar for all the action with live scores and a blog of the match from 6:10pm (AEDT).
Three losses on the trot and the Thunder are sliding down the ladder, their latest at the hands of the Melbourne Stars at the MCG on Wednesday evening.
Batting first, Sydney started strong but slowed, and a modest 145-run total on the board. The Stars completed the chase with 13 deliveries to spare, Thunder unable to take the wickets required to defend such a total.
Hobart Hurricanes fell short on Thursday evening, beaten by the Brisbane Heat by five wickets. Losing regular wickets prevented Hobart from putting a stronger total on the board. Despite Scott Boland’s three wickets, the Heat finished the chase comfortably.
Chris Green is out of the Thunder line-up, suspended from bowling in all Cricket Australia-sanctioned events, including the BBL, for 90 days. He could still be picked as a batsman, though he has been left out of the squad altogether. Nathan McAndrew has been dropped.
Spinner Liam Bowe returns to the Thunder squad, along with Liam Hatcher.
The Hurricanes have also made two changes to their line-up, dropping batsman Mac Wright and fast bowler David Moody. The pair have been replaced by Jake Doran and Jake Reed.
The last time these two met was late in the BBL|08 season, under the DLS method the Sydney Thunder won by four wickets in Canberra.
Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott and George Bailey put 165-runs on the board for Hobart. Sydney’s chase was successful; Callum Ferguson, Usman Khawaja and Chris Green combined to make the runs with four balls to spare.
Prediction
Hobart has made a few changes to its batting line-up over the past week, but should be more gelled at the crease this evening and able to combine for a large total.
At home though, this is an important game for Sydney to win. The Thunder must be aggressive with the bat, while the bowlers need to find wickets and get the job done.
Thunder to win.
