Mitchell Marsh has made a successful return to cricket with Sydney grade side Western Suburbs on Saturday.

Sidelined with a hamstring complaint since Australia’s second Test victory over India in Brisbane in mid-December, Marsh hit 38 off 46 balls and then took 2-14 off four overs as he continued his recovery ahead of the World Cup.

Marsh was easily the star for Wests, who managed just 9-128 in their allotted 50 overs in their first-grade clash.

Eastern Suburbs chased down the target at Pratten Park within 23 overs for the loss of just two wickets.

The 23-year-old allrounder was named in Australia’s 15-man World Cup squad earlier this month, despite his injury worries.

He said he was hoping to be included in the Australian side for Monday’s ODI clash with India at the SCG.

“It has taken a bit longer than I would have liked but with the summer that we have, we have had the opportunity to take it a bit longer and get it right,” Marsh said.

Australia host England at the MCG on February 14 in their World Cup opener.
