Following the official departure of Anthony Seibold, Brisbane faced the daunting prospect of a rejuvenated Sydney Roosters outfit. The Roosters duly racked up a half-century on them, the second time in season 2020 that Brisbane have conceded 50+ to the tri-colours.
Now they welcome the table-toppers to Suncorp, to play in front of a crowd which hasn’t done much cheering this season. The locals probably aren’t planning on much changing this week.
The Panthers held off a spirited early challenge from Wests Tigers, conceding the first try for the first time in 14 matches. Despite being undermanned, Penrith methodically dismantled their Western Sydney rivals to win 30-6, and extend their winning streak to a club-record 11 games. No side has won 12 straight since the 2016 Cronulla Sharks.
The men from the foot of the mountains are closing in on the minor premiership, and won’t want to see their winning streak undone by a team like the Broncos. This has the potential to get very ugly for Brisbane.
