Things couldn’t be going much worse for Ricky Stuart at the moment. Not only have the Raiders lost four games in a row, the latest a comfortable 14-point defeat to the Rabbitohs; they’ve also seen veteran Josh Hodgson officially relinquish the captaincy as a move north looms.
Josh Papalii is back after being controversially rested last week, as is George Williams from a hamstring strain in the warm-up; but the Raiders will still be without Hodgson (calf) and co-captain Jarrod Croker (shoulder). The newly promoted Elliott Whitehead will lead the team in Croker’s absence.
Things are going just as badly for the Knights, last week’s disastrous 38-4 loss to the Roosters prompting plenty of soul-searching from Adam O’Brien and his charges. Minus Blake Green, who suffered a rib injury in that loss, they’ll find it tough to claim just their second victory since March.
The Raiders’ recent record at GIO Stadium has been diabolical, having lost their past three at the former fortress, so perhaps a trip to Wagga Wagga is just the tonic for the green machine to return to their best.
