The North Queensland Cowboys will be looking to bounce back from last week’s disastrous loss when they host the Cronulla Sharks in Townsville. Tune into the first of two Friday night games here on The Roar with live scores from 6pm (AEST).

The Cowboys’ clash with Manly in Round 14 could hardly have gone much worse for them. After scoring the game’s first two tries, Todd Payten’s men were simply blown off the park, the Sea Eagles racking up 50 points en route to a soul-destroying defeat.

Having won five of their last seven games heading in, the loss stopped the Cowboys’ building momentum dead in its tracks, but given they still sit seventh on the ladder with a 6-7 record, there’s plenty of time to get back on the horse. Boosting their chances is the return of Kyle Feldt from a sore back sustained while on State of Origin duty, while Mitch Dunn also returns from suspension.

The Sharks have made a habit of close wins of late: two of their last three matches, on either side of their Round 13 bye, have been one-point thrillers, with first Chad Townsend and then Shaun Johnson giving them victories over the Dragons and the Origin-depleted Panthers.

Suddenly, from out of nowhere, Josh Hannay’s team are flying, three consecutive wins leaving them just one win outside the top eight. Victory tonight would all but guarantee them a spot there come the end of the round, too.

Captain Wade Graham has been ruled out after suffering yet another head knock against the Panthers, with both club and player set to be ultra-cautious about his return. Siosifa Talakai returns to the starting 13 in his place, but aside from that, the Sharks are heading in with the same line-up that stunned the premiership favourites last round.

With the battle for the final spots in the eight heating up, this looms as a veritable eight-point game, and one the vanquished could look back on ruefully come season’s end.
