Pride and pride alone is on the line for the North Queensland Cowboys as they take on the Wests Tigers, but their opponents have the faintest glimmer of hope heading into this clash. Tune into events from the country’s far north with live scores on The Roar from 5:30pm (AEST).

Realistically, the Tigers don’t have much of a chance of forcing their way into finals… but two wins and 66 on points-differential can mathematically be mown down if they hit a good stretch of form.

Michael Maguire oversaw an expected win over the Bulldogs last week, but with pressure mounting over his future at the helm, he cannot afford to drop this one to the equally struggling Cowboys. James Roberts is back and available after serving his COVID-19 quarantine, but is expected to bide his time before earning a recall; otherwise, the Tigers look set to go in unchanged.

Things have fallen apart dramatically for the Cowboys in the back end of the season – their losing streak is now eight games long, and now just a win and a slender points-differential margin ahead of state rivals the Broncos.

Todd Payten has reacted to last week’s crushing loss to the Titans by dropping Connelly Lemuelu for Daejarn Asi, who will partner another inclusion in Jake Granville in a new-look centres pairing. Jason Taumalolo is the bad news, the captain having fractured his hand again; with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow still out following appendix surgery, the Cowboys look to be seriously lacking a spark.
