The South Sydney Rabbitohs will be looking to shore up their spot in the top four when they take on the struggling Newcastle Knights on Saturday afternoon. Follow every moment from Stadium Australia here on The Roar with live scores from 5:30pm (AEST).

While some way off the competition’s best, as evidenced by conceding 50 points to both the Panthers and the Storm, the Rabbitohs appear to be the best of the rest in 2021. A win today would see them draw level on wins with the third-placed Eels, who they beat 38-20 in their most recent match back in Round 12, while keeping a gap to the fifth-placed Roosters.

It’s mixed news on the Origin front for Wayne Bennett, with Latrell Mitchell and Jaydn Su’A to back up from Wednesday’s series opener, though the latter will start on the bench. Meanwhile, Damien Cook, Cameron Murray, Dane Gagai and Jai Arrow will all get a rest. A bye should leave the non-Origin component of the squad nice and refreshed ahead of the second half of the season.

The Knights had possibly their most disappointing loss in what’s fast becoming an ugly 2021 campaign last week, souring Old Boys Day with a 40-4 thumping at the hands of the Eels at home. Blues prop Daniel Saifiti will back up from Origin I, while Starford To’a’s injury will see Kurt Mann shift to number 3 and Enari Tuala move to the wing.

Now sitting fifteenth, the pressure is right on Adam O’Brien to make something out of the back end of the season. Remarkably, though, at 5-8, the Knights are still just a game out of the eight, with plenty of time to turn their fortunes around.
