But it was far from smooth sailing for Wayne Bennett’s men, with the lead changing on five occasions in a match that saw three sin bins.
And even the master coach himself at times struggled to watch.
Bennett, speaking after the win, told reporters how he had left the coaches box a couple of minutes before the break and didn’t know Cameron Murray had scored late to grab the lead back for the Rabbitohs, which led to a slightly awkward halftime speech for the team.
