Liam Knight escapes punishment for controversial incident

A moment from South Sydney’s win over Manly to start the second week of the NRL finals has sparked outcry on social media, amidst the backdrop of controversies surrounding eye rakes.

As he attempted to bring down Manly’s Lloyd Perrett during the second half, vision appeared to show South Sydney’s Liam Knight grabbing at the face of the Sea Eagle.

The footage and screenshots of the incident went viral, yet many had believed Damien Cook to have been the culprit.

However, an extended version of the clip indicates the hand in Perrett’s face belonged to Knight.

Most importantly, despite the uproar from fans, the Match Review Committee did not cite Knight over the incident.

Eye rakes and facials have been far too prominent this NRL season, with South Sydney’s George Burgess and Canberra’s Hudson Young among those to cop lengthy bans for such conduct.
