LAST TIME THEY MET: The wacky finish that saw the Cowboys pip the Roosters

The North Queensland Cowboys upset the NRL’s reigning premiers, the Sydney Roosters, in Round 17 last year.

Though the Cowboys had taken a 6-0 half time lead, the Roosters came roaring back after the break thanks to tries from veterans Jake Friend and Bret Morris.

Yet just as it looked like the Roosters had assumed control of proceedings, a 69th-minute John Asiata try helped get the visitors back on level terms to set up a tense finish.

The two teams traded drop-goal attempts, with Cooper Cronk and Luke Keary unable to get the job done for the Roosters, while finally, it was third time lucky for North Queensland’s Jake Clifford.

If Clifford’s effort hadn’t done it already, an unfortunate out-on-the-full on the attempted short restart from Latrell Mitchell certainly did, with the Cowboys holding onto the ball and finishing things off with a penalty to claim a three-point victory.
