It’s been a long time between drinks for the Springboks. They have never won the Rugby Championship, and last won the Tri-Nations way back in 2009.

But here they have a great chance to claim some silverware and get one over their old foes the All Blacks.

Heading into this match, the Boks are on top of the table with seven points, after a win and draw. New Zealand are second on six points, with a win and a draw, but South Africa have that vital try bonus point.

Their 35-17 smashing of the Wallabies in Joburg has helped a lot.

Now they need Australia to be competitive against the All Blacks in Perth while they post a big score against the Pumas. They won’t get a better chance to win the title. With the kick-off in WA earlier today, they will know exactly what scoreline will be necessary.

South Africa go into this clash in great form and with a strong squad. Their bench is especially strong with Malcolm Marx, Francois Louw, Herschel Jantjies, Frans Steyn and Jesse Kriel all worthy of a starting spot.

Duane Vermuelen has been given the captaincy, with Siya Kolisi still out, while Willie Roux is at fullback. It is an exceptionally powerful forward pack with Steph du Toit, the impressive Kwagga Smith, the towering Eben Etzebeth and ‘The Beast’ Tendai Mtawarira.

They will take some stopping.

Argentina have largely flattered to deceive in this competition. They played well in patches against the All Blacks, and again at times against the Wallabies, but ultimately lost both matches.

It has been the same old story for them. They need to be at their best for the full 80 minutes here to come away with the result.

They have the talent and skill to do it with their back three of Emiliano Boffelli, Santiago Cordero and Ramiro Moyano. All three have pace and good footwork, as well as the ability to break tackles.

They have also hard-nosed forwards like Pablo Matera who will make life difficult for the Boks.

The Pumas can be confident considering they beat South Africa when they met last time in 2018. But they need to be at their very best to jag this one.

Prediction
South Africa have to be wary of the Argentine threat, but they should have enough in the tank to see this one through. With a big, bustling pack and great line speed, the Boks should squeeze the life out of the Pumas.

South Africa to win by 12 points.
