The Reds hosts the Waratahs at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Townsville with several intriguing match ups sure to be watched closely by Eddie Jones. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:35pm (AEST).

The Waratahs have not beaten the Reds in three years. Before that was a slate of NSW victories for a good part of a decade. But that was a long time ago. This year so far, both teams have been average. They both sit on the average part of the ladder with the Reds at 6th and the Waratahs one place below, separated by two competition points.

The Reds suffered many big losses especially against the established Kiwi teams. The last two weeks they celebrated big wins by against the Force and Moana Pacific. They will feel confident to continue their winning streak today.

The Waratahs lost all their matches save for three teams with the same win / loss ratio: Fijian Drua, the Highlanders, and the Force. The Waratahs have lost the attacking prowess they demonstrated last year, injected by the currently injured Tane Edmed.

Tonight is expected to be a typically hot Townsville autumn weather around 25 degrees. The Queenslanders, more acclimatised to the heat, will try to the run the visitors ragged. Townsville weather is around 10 degrees hotter than Sydney.

Defence from both teams have been poor, leaking up to 50 points per game. Both teams’ limited number of wins have been on the back of defensive efforts, where they have kept their opponents score to around 20 or less.

Individually, the Reds’ backs are potent. But they have not been able to consistently work together with their forwards to deceive and defeat more competitive teams. The Waratahs attack has been similarly lacklustre against table toppers, despite having dynamic and power players such as Izzie Perese.

The Waratahs pack is equal to the Reds individually, and in set piece but are less cohesive in general play. The matchup between Harry Jones and Langi Gleeson will be good to watch.

Prediction
The Reds have a good win record against the Waratahs, who themselves have not yet gelled this season. Reds should win comfortably in the heat, in the end.
