Michael Hooper speaks after shock captaincy announcement

Wallabies skipper Michael Hooper has spoken to the media after his decision to stand down as NSW Waratahs captain ahead of the Super Rugby season.

Hooper said the decision was based on a number of factors including the commitment he has he to spending another four years at the club.

“It’s been something that’s been on my mind (standing down as captain) for 18-months,” Hooper said.

Rob Simmons is set to replace Hooper as captain.

“We’ve spoken about how to get the best out of myself over the next four years.”

Hooper admits being both captain of the Wallabies and Waratahs was taxing but he’s still keen to continue to lead the national team.
