Adelaide United will look to restart their A-League charge at home on Wednesday when they take on a Melbourne Victory side who are up to second on the table and could temporarily go equal first with a win. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:50pm (AEDT).

Adelaide will be looking to turn around their form line here, which, simply put, hasn’t been good enough.

While they came away with a draw in their last start, the men in red have only claimed all three points in one of their last five games, with that result coming against the Newcastle Jets.

Other than that, they have been pretty poor, with simply not enough poise in front of goal to put their opponents away.

Despite the run of results, Adelaide still sit sixth on the table and well in the hunt for the finals as we head to the second half of the season.

The Victory’s form has also tailed off in the last couple of weeks, with a pair of draws against Melbourne City and the Wellington Phoenix before they rejoined the winners’ list against the Western Sydney Wanderers last weekend.

The 2-1 victory over the Wanderers saw some excellent defence, and while it wasn’t pretty, it was good enough to count for plenty on the ladder.

Before their two draws, the Victory had won six games on the trot, scoring 15 goals across that period and generally looking like the best team in the competition by a significant distance.

While Keisuke Honda is still watching on from the sidelines, the Victory have attacking threats all over the pitch, and with a pressing defensive line not allowing the opposition a chance to run or breathe, it’s little surprise they are well on track for another run at the championship.

Prediction
For Adelaide, it’s been a story of good, but not quite good enough. In all probability, that’s probably going to continue, even without having to play Honda.

Adelaide United 1 – Melbourne Victory 2.
