With just five rounds left to play out in this year’s A-League season, we’re getting to the pointy end and each result is crucial to how the table will look when all is said and done.
Sydney find themselves in second at the moment, but only have a precarious hold on that spot – they’re just one point ahead of Melbourne Victory in third, and would be behind Victory on goal difference.
Meanwhile they find themselves nine points behind Perth Glory on the top of the table. While it’s still mathematically possible, odds are they won’t be catching them before time runs out.
Sydney’s focus then should be to hold on to their top-two spot as tightly as they can and that means when a chance to get an easy win against a team lower in the order presents itself, as it does tonight, they must not let it slip.
Brisbane are ninth on the table and have only recorded three wins for the season. Noticeably, their 30 goals for the year is not that far short of Sydney’s 36, but they’ve conceded 52 to as opposed to just 24 let in by the Sky Blues.
Prediction
Sydney are the clear favourites in this match and have extra motivation in seeking to ensure they have the best possible finish from which to approach the finals.
