The Socceroos have the opportunity to finish 2019 on a high and practically assure themselves progression to the next stage of qualifying when they take on Jordan on Friday morning. Join The Roar for live scores from the match, starting from 3am AEDT.

The Australian national side has so far taken wins over Kuwait, Nepal and Chinese Taipei as they aim to progress towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but face the biggest challenge yet when they go up against Jordan, albeit in a match they are still expected to win.

After scoring fifteen goals in three games, Socceroos coach Graham Arnold says his intention is to for his team to keep looking for opportunites to go on attack.

“Martin (Boyle) is in great shape. If you asked him what he can do for us he’d say he could give us 60 or 70 great minutes,” Arnold said.

“We have many options. Everyone is fit, everyone is healthy. We have a great team environment of mateship and we’re looking forward to the game.”

Skipper Mark Milligan will miss the match, but Arnold is yet to confirm who will take over in his absence.

“We have a number of players that can lead. Over the last 13, 14 months I’ve been in charge a lot of it has been about transition of the squad.

Also set to miss is Mathew Leckie, who will miss the match to remain in Germany and spend time with his newborn son.
“Mathew was willing to come to Jordan but when we considered the travel, recovery and the preparatory period prior to the match, we made the decision not to rush him here,” said Arnold.

“I think it is important that Mathew and his family enjoy this special period in their lives together.”
