Reigning champions Melbourne City rightfully kick off the 2021-22 A-League Men’s season when they host Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park. Join The Roar for live scores from the season opener from 7:45pm (AEDT).

It was nothing but glory for Patrick Kisnorbo and his team last season, with a premiership and championship the products of hard work done in the previous off-season and the continued structural and financial commitment of the City Football Group as owners.

Brisbane Roar ran a creditable fourth in 2020-21 after starting and ending the season well, only to be bundled from contention in the elimination final by Adelaide United. It was a sad end on home soil and Warren Moon will expect further improvement from a squad with which he did so well in his first 12 months in charge.

New signings Nikola Mileusnić, Luke Ivanovic and Juan Lescano are the men Moon hopes will rejuvenate the Roar’s attacking stocks, whilst City will look very similar to last season, but also enjoy the addition of Mathew Leckie to what is an already strong squad.

Logic suggests the champions will be too strong in this season opener, yet Brisbane began like the proverbial house on fire last season and would be wrongfully ruled out of serious contention in this fixture, especially considering A-League Men results are typically unpredictable at this early stage of the season.
