Melbourne Victory can go top of the A-League when they take on bitter rivals Melbourne City in the second Melbourne derby of this season. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from AAMI Park from 7:50pm AEDT.

Victory are just two points being league leaders Perth Glory after eight rounds. Kevin Muscat’s men will have top spot, and a chance for revenge, when they clash with their neighbours.

In the first Melbourne derby of the 2018/2019 campaign City prevailed 2-1 in controversial circumstances, fighting from a goal behind to win courtesy of Riley McGree’s strike.

But since then it has been plain sailing for Victory, suffering just one more loss in the past two months.

The club has delighted the competition with their attacking prowess courtesy of Keisuke Honda, the Japanese marvel.

Honda has lived up to his big-named billing and already grabbed five goals and three assists. Along with Kosta Barbarouses, Terry Antonis and Ola Toivonen, Victory possess a frightening front third.

It has been the complete opposite for City, with head coach Warren Joyce embroiled in a messy spat with banished star striker Bruno Fornaroli.

The club’s fans have been up in arms as the team has managed just four wins, though they still sit in fourth place.

More recently their active support group just disbanded, however some solace came in last weekend’s 2-0 triumph over Adelaide United.

Victory go into the derby as firm favourites because of their form and record – they have won their past three derbies against City at AAMI Park.

For Joyce’s charges a win would bring huge relief and much-needed impetus to a season that has not really got going yet.

City will be able to call on Curtis Good, who has returned from suspension, but will have to do without injured import Florin Berenguer-Bohrer.

Prediction
Victory have momentum with them and an edge over City in recent times. With Honda pulling the strings, Victory to win by two goals.
