Sydney FC will be looking to extend their whopping 13-point advantage on top of the A-League ladder when they take on crosstown rivals Western Sydney Wanderers in 2020’s first Sydney Derby. Join The Roar for live scores from 8:00pm (AEDT).

Having lost just once in sixteen matches thus far this A-League season, the Sky Blues are as close to unbackable premiership favourites as it’s possible to be this far from the finish line.

It’s now been more than two months since the last time they failed to secure all three points in a match – a 2-2 draw with Wellington Phoenix back before Christmas – and with midfielder Alex Baumjohann back from suspension, the Sky Blues are looking as strong as ever.

However, their only loss for the season did come in the last Sydney Derby, falling to the Wanderers 1-0 in October last year. For that reason, victory in this grudge match will be more important than ever for Steve Corica’s men.

That triumph over the ladder-leaders was one of few highlights for the Wanderers in a turbulent start to the season under former coach Markus Babbel.

However, interim boss Jean-Paul de Marigny has overseen a revival, the team winning twice and drawing once in his three games in charge, the latest an incredible 5-2 triumph over Adelaide United in one of the matches of the season.

With the likes of Mitchell Duke in excellent form in attack, do the Wanderers have the firepower to challenge a miserly Sky Blues defence that’s conceded just 13 goals for the season?

Prediction
Despite their recent success, you can’t possibly tip the Wanderers in this one. The Sky Blues are just too strong. The Derby does strange things, but surely not this strange. Surely.
