Adam Voges has left the field retired hurt after he was struck on the helmet by a Cameron Stevenson bouncer on day one of Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania.
The West Australian was 16 from 41 deliveries when a short-pitched ball from Stevenson struck him on the side of the head. It looked as though he assumed the ball would travel well over his head however, the delivery failed to bounce as high as it usually would have on a WACA pitch.
The incumbent Australian number five was immediately ruled out of the rest of the match with concussion. His condition is being monitored closely by a doctor.
Voges becomes the third player to be diagnosed with concussion this domestic summer, following Nic Maddison and Daniel Hughes, who suffered the same fate whilst playing for New South Wales in the Matador Cup.
