So Origin III is done and dusted. Queensland have lifted the trophy for the seventh consecutive time and Petero has gone out a winner. Here are some of the big plays and highlights from Channel Nine’s coverage.

Pre-game
For people who used to think Darren Lockyer’s post game interviews were funny, they got to be really annoyed by him now that he has been the sideline commentator for half a season right?

They should really broadcast an alternative version with uncensored commentary. It would be a lot more enjoyable.

Phil Gould looks like he has put on some extra weight since the last Origin. Phil, it is probably time to cut down on the meat pies and give Jenny Craig a call.

Now for the pre-game entertainment, if you can call it that. What is in store this time? The guy who didn’t win The Voice is singing the anthem. Can we have that red headed kid from game one back for obvious comical reasons?

Now for the main course – kick off in Origin III 2012!
1′ Fight fight fight fight, well that didn’t take long. Oh Brett Tate, what a cheap shot. Tate basically sucker punched Gallen who was already pinned down.

How was that not a sin bin offence? The referee says that he didn’t see it. Nice. Joey Crawford is more credible.

3′ Farah was lucky he didn’t get penalised, he looks angry. Does this mean another big performance for Robbie?

5′ If NSW takes the kick for two points, they lose. You would be out of your mind if you think Queensland won’t get a few questionable penalties with this ref. On a side note, Uate would probably have made it all the way right?

And of course they take the kick….

9′ Why would you kick on the third? These small things add up

10′ Greg bird with a nice little off load there. He is just such an Origin player, always stepping up and making plays that shift the game.

13′ TRY. Less face grabbing more king hitting please.

14′ Farah is concussed here, but he is going to stay on, kinda like how Rondo played on after he dislocated his elbow. How’s that for Origin spirit? May be it’s a good sign.

By the way, Ron Palmer is the trainer, next time can we have Beau Ryan with a wig and a fake moustache?

20′ Jonathan Thurston did what he should have done in the last set of 6, cut out pass to Boyd for a straightforward try. Cue to backlashes against Hayne for not being committed enough to make a try saving tackle.

24′ Cameron Smith just did an equivalent of a gridiron football sack on Ben Creagh.

26′ We see a bloody Ben Creagh. It seems that you always need a player with a heavily wrapped head to come back playing hurt in order for your team to win. Just maybe…

26′ Some NSW player just did a Chris Sandow on Thaiday. For those who don’t know the lingo, doing a “Chris Sandow” is trying to come up with a huge shoulder charge but end up bouncing off quite embarrassingly with little effect on the tackled player.

32′ Amazing line break by Thurston and of course he would back himself up scoring the try. You don’t become the most prolific point scorer in Origin history just by making the occasional huge play. That’s right, this is directed at you Jarryd Hayne.

35′ TRY by Hodges, that was way too easy, soft defence by NSW even though there looks to be an obstruction.

And of course it wouldn’t be an obstruction. How can I put it appropriately without saying that the refs are a bunch of spineless crooks who are too scared to not give a try at Suncorp? Note to self: I need to work on a less offensive description here.

38′ James Tamou lost the ball trying to make an improbable offload, cue to Petero shaking his head going ‘Kids, they think they can do it all’.

47′ Farah just carried the team on his back, setting up a try for Stewart! Somewhere Tim Sheens must be relieved the Tigers’ season isn’t over.

48′ Gus Gould expresses his dislike for people taking goals for the millionth time.

54′ Farah, Brett Morris and the post combine for a couple of try saving tackles. It is interesting to note that the post was the only defender who tried to tackle Inglis and didn’t bounce right off.

62′ T Rex ‘accidentally made contact with’ Cooper Cronk in the face. Looked as accidental as something you would see in a boxing ring.

66′ Carney made a Hail Mary pass on the last tackle and Matt Scott was dumb enough to knock it down. He is definitely not the sharpest tool in the toolshed.

69′ Ben Creagh is coming back on then the next thing you know Farah is in the zone! Pin point missile to Josh Morris. The commentators getting worked up and worried about a rule that may deny the try, but it’s ruled a try, and Carney has read the script and converts.

Gearing up for the finish. I guess we are in range

74′ Greg Bird scissoring Hodges after the tackle, pretty disturbing scene, someone needs to make this into a gif, would be hilarious.

75′ Obviously T Rex should have ‘accidentally contacted, Cooper Cronk harder, as he kicks a field goal. Queensland now have a one point lead.

77′ That’s why skins should be made compulsory, no one needs to see GI mooning.

79’ Pearce just missed the shot. Queensland make it seven straight.

Stuff dry July, I am gonna start drinking again.
