Symonds sent home from Darwin
Australian allrounder Andrew Symonds will be sent home from Darwin and will not play in the one-day cricket series against Bangladesh.
Clarke promises no upset on his watch
Cricket Australia (CA) today said the team’s leadership group had recommended late last night that Symonds, 33, be sent home.
He will not play in today’s first match at TIO Stadium.
A team spokesman would not outline the exact reasons why, but there is speculation the penalty is related to a discipline breach.
It is just over three years since Symonds went on a drinking binge the night before a match against Bangladesh, which earned him a two-game suspension and nearly resulted in him being sent home from the 2005 Ashes tour.
Another disciplinary breach will not go down well with the Australian team given acting captain Michael Clarke spoke just yesterday of the need to never take any opposition team for granted.
Australia’s selectors will meet to discuss sending Symonds’ replacement to Darwin.
CA will hold a press conference after today’s match to discuss Symonds’ departure.

I reckon Cricket Australia have made a blunder televising this series. So early in the season it’s only going to turn people off cricket for the rest of the season. What a terrible bit of sport today’s match was.
Having had this taster today, I say: stick around a little longer footy!
