State of Origin game 3: Time to show NSW how it’s done, again. Join us from 7:30pm (AEST) for all the action and banter with a Queensland call of the game. Queenslander!
You’ve joined the QLD Maroons blog. Go QLD! Looking for the New South Wales live blog? Go and join the Blues here.
We weren’t quite up to scratch in game two after getting home in game one, but with big Justin Hodges back, we’ve got a few more tricks up the sleeve.
They tried to get us at the judiciary, and Johnathan Thurston rightly got off, but they managed to get big unit Dave Taylor for a few weeks.
However, we’re back at home in front of a huge Queensland loud and proud crowd as we look to do Darren Lockyer justice in his final game, before he is immortalised in bronze alongside Wall Lewis’ statue outside Suncorp Stadium.
We’ve got one of the best spines ever seen in Billy Slater, Lockyer, Thurston, and Cameron Smith who just needs some headway from our forward pack to lay down the pain for the Blues.
The referees should give us more space with a proper 10m enforced by Shayne Hayne and Tony Archer.
Log on for pre-game Queensland banter, follow the scores, and join the debate from 7.30pm for the kick off at 8.10pm (live on Channel Nine – AEST)
Betting: Queensland at $1.57, NSW (deservedly) rank outsiders at $2.40.

State of Origin: Queensland’s Secret to Success
Queensland’s xxxx, the foe of NSW, a united family and a team of continual success. They are the 6 year reigning champions.
Defense is a key element of the Maroon team, when the blues attack, at least two xxxx defend, smothering first the ball and then tackling the legs. The tackler holds the opponent down, just enough to not concede a penalty, this allows for the rest of the team to get back onside and strengthen the line of defense.
Attack is a natural element of the Queensland team. They have many key players that are able to read the NSW defense, these players create opportunities to put pressure on the Blues defensive line, creating some chaos. Once chaos is present xxxx allow their pressure players to break their defenses even further, creating more chaos, causing rash decisions to be made by individuals of the Blues.
The Maroons work like a family, very tight, continuously supporting one another, whether on defense or on attack. The members of xxxx know each other, when key players move in a certain manner, the rest of the family know where to go. Each family member know their role and responsibility and endeavor to carry our their own duty.
To be successful as a team, it is my belief that a team should be like a well knit family. Listening, understanding and taking care of each other. Having trust in each and following the one who has been charged with the lead role. Love and respect each other regardless of what the outcome is.

Just a question for all the RL fans out there – Jarryd Hayne’s tackle on Billy Slater early in the match was identical to Dave Talyor’s ‘dangerous’ tackle last week (over the horizontal, neck bent with head under the body). Neither hurt anyone and neither were particularly bad in anyone’s eyes (other than the NSWRL…I mean, ARL…in Taylor’s case), but Taylor was given 5 weeks so that means Hayne will be cited and sent before the tribunal and end up with some time off…right?? (What’s the bet it doesn’t happen!!)

I saw it Lee, and I couldn’t agree with you more. The ref let a lot from NSW slip last night, that was just one. Hayne quite clearly not just flipped billy over but had weight down on his neck.

Meninga on the field with his team. A proud, PROUD moment for QLD, the coach, the team, and of course, Darren Lockyer.
In case you missed it, QLD get their sixth straight Origin series win.

Thank you, and good night.

Bittersweet knowing this is the last time Locky plays in a Maroon jersey. What a champion. Soak it up Locky!
Will be interesting to see whether NSW will lift post-Lockyer, or if we’ll be seeing much of the same for the next six years…
I’m hoping for the latter

Man of the match points for QLD 3pts – Anthony Minicello (what a horror match)
2pts – refs (played to the script)
1 pt Kurt Gidley (set an origin record for brain explosions).
Some of the Qlders played OK in patches also, especially when gifted field position by the ref, but no individual QLDer contributed more to the victory than any of those three. Well done Locky though. The occasion was way too big for NSW.

Takes a big heart for a league player to roll out onto the Origin field in a wheelchair to share the winning moment with his team. You bet he wouldn’t miss it, but that’s still got to be a little mortifying for a professional player, who is such a BIG man (even if in a little body) on the footy field.

On a more serious note.
This twitter quote sums up the Thurston injury to a tee – “Thurston’s leg bent backwards like a barbie doll” – eek.
Looks like he’ll be out for a while getting that fixed. Won’t be good for Cowboys. He was in fantastic form tonight. With the boot and the ball.

Ricky Stuart has made some weird selections over the three games and his reasons behind them have been questionable, to say the least. It is only through injury that has forced him to make better decisions. He has done much better for Game 3, it is a solid team. Michael Ennis in one selection I do not agree with, he will be a worry for Blues! Let’s hope he just buckles down and does his job, without giving any penalties, until Giddley comes on. If he can do that NSW is half way there!
10:07am
Charles said | 10:07am | Report comment
For the first time, with Game 3, Ricky Stuart has finally chosen a team that has more strengths than weaknessess. Although not the best available, it is a solid and a well balanced team. He has managed to do that, being forced through injury, but the end result, it is the right one. The back rowers will once again prove vital in NSW chances of winning. Hayne and Gasnier must get the ball in their hands as much as possible, they will create opportunities. This will be best done in 2nd phase play, running off the back rowers. QLD strength is in Hodges & Inglis but to my mind it is also their weakness. We got to put the heat on them, they are fresh from injury and perhaps not match fit! I am convinced this NSW team is the team that will beat QLD and perhaps by a margin of 13. Go the Blues!

Yep – ironically enough, dropping the NSW selectors has been one of the all time great Origin selections!
The only issue NSW has is the selection of Michael “The Liability” Ennis. He is miles off the pace at the best of times, and can easily provide a brain explosion at the most inopportune moments…
He shouldn’t even be allowed to watch an Origin game, let alone play in one.
6:56pm
Melanie Dinjaski said | 6:56pm | Report comment
Ennis is a total waste of space for NSW. But I’m okay with it, because it makes QLD’s job easier. He’s also a handy punching bag for the Maroons when he starts with the biff.
