Stan Wawrinka will enter the second round coming off of a strong win over Joao Sousa in straight sets. Wawrinka’s strong backhand and offensive backline strokes have helped him to skyrocket to No. 4 in the ATP Rankings and he deserves to be there.

Wawrinka will easily be able to win the match in three sets, however, if it is extended to four or five sets he will have a significant advantage over the tired 34-year old Spaniard Burgos.

Burgos will be tired after coming off a four-set thriller against Benjamin Becker where he beat the German 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

Burgos must use his strong forehand to dismantle his Swiss opponent and continue the grit he displayed in the first round. The Spaniard will want to be careful with the placement of his offensive baseline strokes to avoid losing points off the back of Wawrinka’s strong swing.

Wawrinka and Burgos have never met in a match before. Stanislas is coming off a 9-1 win-loss record in his last ten matches, his only loss coming at the hands of Kevin Anderson at Queens where he went down in consecutive sets 7-6, 7-6. Burgos’ win-loss record of 4-6 in his last ten shall not be taken well as in his past five matches he has only won one match. Ranked 48th, Burgos will need a lot of luck if he is to win.

Prediction
Wawrinka will shut down Burgos easily.
