“I just needed to move ahead.”

Hayne then became the No.2 option behind Hyde and showed safe hands and powerful running.

Hyde, Hayne’s roommate during training camp, was the player of the game and scored two touchdowns – his first with a brilliant spin – to carry the 49ers to victory.

At the end of the game, 49ers supporters tossed an Australian flag at Hayne who wrapped it around his shoulders and beamed.
