The 2015 Brownlow Medal is nearly upon us and obviously while not every club can have a winner in any given year, there’s still a lot of fun to be had no matter who you support to see who comes out on top for your side.

In some cases there’s a clear cut club leader and in other cases it’s very difficult to tell who will edge out who. This post looks, club-by-club, at who the likely leading vote-getters are for each team in the AFL.

Adelaide
Top three betting odds:
Patrick Dangerfield – $1.01
Scott Thompson – $9
Eddie Betts – $21

You can just about lock in Patrick Dangerfield as the Crows’ top vote-getter, he’s had a remarkable season above and beyond what any of his teammates have put forward. He’s the unbackable favourite to claim most votes for the Crows and a strong chance to win the Bronwlow itself.

Brisbane
Top three betting odds:
Dayne Beams – $1.27
Stefan Martin – $2.75
Tom Rockliff – $10

The Lions have a bit of a difficult task to split their vote-getters given so many of their players have copped significant injuries in 2015. Dayne Beams is a proven vote-winner, however, and despite missing the tail end of the season due to injury will probably get the most for the Lions.

Carlton
Top three betting odds:
Marc Murphy – $1.55
Patrick Cripps – $2.35
Tom Bell – $10

Much like the Blues’ best and fairest award this one will come down to a tight finish between the captain and the young gun. While Marc Murphy is at a shorter price with betting agencies, my tip would be that Patrick Cripps swoops in to record the most votes for the Blues.

Collingwood
Top three betting odds:
Scott Pendlebury – $1.17
Dane Swan – $3.75
Taylor Adams – $15

It’s a tough call between Collingwood’s two superstars Pendlebury and Swan this year but while Pendlebury is at the shorter price, Swan had a great year and has proven in the past he is a player umpires love to give votes to. Swan is my tip here.

Essendon
Top three betting odds:
Dyson Heppell – $1.60
Michael Hurley – $5
Cale Hooker – $8

No one from Essendon is likely to poll a huge amount of votes this year but Dyson Heppell had another solid season and will probably lead the way. Keep an eye on Brent Stanton who finished the year finding plenty of the ball and might be a dark horse for Essendon’s leading vote-getter.

Fremantle
Top three betting odds:
Nat Fyfe – $1.01
David Mundy – $9
Lachie Neale – $17

He’s the short-priced Brownlow favourite so it should come as no surprise that Fyfe is considered overwhelmingly likely to take out the most votes for Fremantle. Mundy and Neale will poll a few along the way no doubt but Fyfe should finish on top.

Geelong
Top three betting odds:
Joel Selwood – $1.22
Steven Motlop – $4.5
Josh Caddy – $8

Selwood’s 2015 season wasn’t quite as impressive as his form over past years – including when he fell just one vote short of the win in 2013 – but no one else from Geelong had a consistent enough season to be a significant challenge.

Gold Coast
Top three betting odds:
Charlie Dixon – $3.50
Tom J Lynch – $3.75
Harley Bennell – $4.5

Probably the most unpredictable of the lot, Gold Coast’s injury crisis makes it all but impossible to predict just which player will finish with the most votes for the club. My tip is that it will probably be Tom J Lynch, but really there are a good four or five options in contention.

Greater Western Sydney
Top three betting odds:
Callan Ward – $2.25
Dylan Shiel – $3
Adam Treloar – $3.5

Shiel would be an obvious favourite for the Giants had it not been for his season-ending injury. Ward and Treloar played much fuller seasons and thus should beat him over volume if not quality. It could go either way between the two but I’ll tip Ward.

Hawthorn
Top three betting odds:
Sam Mitchell – $1.02
Luke Hodge – $10
Cyril Rioli – $17

Mitchell’s had another excellent season and depending on who you talk to is in contention to win the whole thing. The Hawks have a lot of impressive players but it’s Mitchell who should be their leading vote-getter and possible winner.

Melbourne
Top three betting odds:
Bernie Vince – $1.50
Nathan Jones – $2.45
Jesse Hogan – $10

Another consistent season from captain Nathan Jones has him in contention but Bernie Vince was definitely Melbourne’s best midfielder in 2015 and had an awesome patch in the middle of the year where he will score plenty of votes. Should win it comfortably.

North Melbourne
Top three betting odds:
Todd Goldstein – $1.01
Jack Ziebell – $17
Brent Harvey – $21

No doubt Goldstein has had the best season of any North Melbourne player, the only question hanging over his head is how he will fare in the polls, as ruckmen do not traditionally attract big numbers. If this leads to him being overlooked, Shaun Higgins ($34) could be a real smokey.

Port Adelaide
Top three betting odds:
Robbie Gray – $1.67
Travis Boak – $2.4
Chad Wingard – $6.5

The Power’s big stars are all in with a shot this year but after being cruelly overlooked for votes so many times in the 2014 count you’d reckon a little karma swings back in Robbie Gray’s direction this year and should make him Port’s top vote-getter.

Richmond
Top three betting odds:
Trent Cotchin – $2.4
Dustin Martin – $2.6
Brett Deledio – $3

It’s no surprise that Richmond’s three star midfielders are expected to lead the count for the Tigers this year, but which one will come out on top is tougher to predict. Deledio is probably the best of the lot but missed a number of games, so my tip will be for Dustin Martin.

St Kilda
Top three betting odds:
David Armitage – $1.01
Jack Steven – $8.5
Nick Riewoldt – $15

Jack Steven may have won the Saints’ best and fairest over David Armitage but Armitage seems to be the runaway favourite to poll the most votes for the Saints. He probably does play the kind of football that will attract votes more than Steven necessarily does but Steven is very much a chance in my book.

Sydney
Top three betting odds:
Dan Hannebery – $1.37
Josh P Kennedy – $2.9
Lance Franklin – $23

It’ll definitely be one of Hannebery or Kennedy who takes home the most votes for the Swans in 2015, and it’s a tough battle – both have had excellent years. Hannebery is my tip to win the Brownlow overall, so he has to be my tip to get the most votes for the Swans also.

West Coast
Top three betting odds:
Matt Priddis – $1.12
Andrew Gaff – $5
Josh J Kennedy – $21

Matt Priddis is one of the favourites to take home the medal, he won it last year and has had another impressive season. However, he’ll come up against some stiff competition for votes from his teammates this year with Andrew Gaff a genuine chance to record the most votes for the Eagles.

Western Bulldogs
Top three betting odds:
Mitch Wallis – $2.9
Marcus Bontempelli – $3
Matthew Boyd – $3.75

The Bulldogs are a hard team to predict at the 2015 Brownlow Count with so many quality players having excellent seasons and no real stand-out. My tip to get the most votes for the Dogs would be young gun Marcus Bontempelli, but Luke Dahlhaus ($9) could be a real smokey to take that honour.
