Australian seventh seed Bernard Tomic stunned tennis fans everywhere yesterday when he knocked out world number eight Kei Nishikori in an emphatic three-set victory 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Tomic played some of his best tennis and shapes as a real force as the Queensland local now sits just one win away from a possible Brisbane International final match-up with childhood hero Roger Federer.

Before meeting Nishikori in the quarter finals, Tomic had to defeat Nicolas Mahut in the first round who he saw off in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 and 2009 champion Radek Stepanek who went down with a fight in three sets 7-6, 4-6, 7-6. Bernard has won six of his last ten matches.

Fourth seed Milos Raonic has only lost two of his last ten matches going down to Rafael Nadal and Viktor Troicki at Shanghai and Beijing during the back end of 2015.

Raonic has been worse than expected so far at the Brisbane International, starting in the second round when he defeated Ivan Dodig in three sets 6-7, 6-1, 6-4.

The Canadian struggled early after dropping the first set but found his groove in what was his first game on the ATP World Tour since October of last year and eased through to a quarter-final match-up with 21 year old Frenchman Lucas Pouille.

Pouille gave Raonic a much needed challenge but was unable to keep him at bay and went down in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Raonic is the favourite to win through to the final however he knows he will be up against it with the last Australian standing Bernard Tomic to have the lion’s share of support from the crowd at Pat Rafter Arena.

The two seeds have only played each other once at Tokyo in 2014 when Raonic won in straight sets 7-6, 6-3 during the first round.

The winner proceeds to the final against either 2015 champion Roger Federer or eighth seed Dominic Thiem.

Prediction
Both Tomic and Raonic have every reason to win however based on Tomic’s form that saw him defeat second seed Kei Nishikori he will qualify for the final in a very close match.

Tomic in three sets.
