A conversation between Nigerian friends about who is the best footballer turned deadly serious at a birthday party in Mumbai.
Indian police confirmed a man was charged with murder after allegedly stabbing another man in the throat with a glass.
The victim, Obinna Michael Durumchukwa is believed to have first thrown the glass at friend, Nwabu Chukwuma after a debate over Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
“The victim entered into the heated conversation and considered Ronaldo to be the best football player but the accused was supporting Messi,” a police spokesperson said.
“When one of the accused started leaving, the deceased threw a glass at him which hit him on his face and the glass broke. The accused picked up the piece of glass and in a fit of rage slit the throat of the victim.”
Neighbours alerted police after hearing the altercation.
According to police, Durumchukwa was staying in a rented flat with Chukwuma and some more friends for the past few months.
Chukwuma is expected to face court on Monday.
