Match result:

The Eels were victorious in what turned out to be an absolute fizzer as the game ended with just the solitary try to Junior Paulo.

REPORT: EELS GRIND OUT WIN

The Tigers were not themselves in attack, more so in the second half. They looked like scoring when they chanced their arm and could have had a couple of tries off kicks with a bit more luck.

But in the last quarter of the game they looked like they wanted to play safe footy to score two tries, Or just chuck to Tedesco and hope he scores.

Tedesco was brilliant for the Tigers today, he was everywhere he needed to be and his teammates should have scored with their opportunities.

The Eels weren’t bad but they weren’t good either. They did enough to win but with some luck going the Tigers’ way they could have just as easily walked away with nothing. Radradra was nowhere near as involved as he needed to be.

Final score
Eels 8
Tigers 0

Match preview:

The Wests Tigers and Parramatta Eels face off in their inaugural Easter Monday clash at ANZ Stadium this afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4pm AEDT.

Both clubs will be looking for their third win of the season after positive starts that have seen them drop just one game each. The Tigers couldn’t make it three in a row falling to the Titans on the Gold Coast last Saturday night. The Eels will be looking to keep up their good form after impressing in consecutive wins over the Cowboys and Bulldogs.

In what should be a very exciting and well attended game for Easter Monday this could be a great attacking spectacle featuring some of the stars of the opening rounds. Tedesco and Moses have been the inspiration for the Tigers while Radradra found his groove last week for the Eels, the catalyst for their attack.

While there could be plenty of scintillating footy, the game will probably be won on the back of defence as it so often is. The Tigers have raised doubts about their defence in all three games, leaking points worryingly at times. They let the Warriors and Sea Eagles back in during their wins over them and the lapses caught up with them last week as the Titans hit the front and couldn’t be run down. The Eels meanwhile have been impressive against quality opposition in that area.

In team news the Tigers welcome back Robbie Farah who could well add some defensive steel and control, Chris Lawrence is out of the side through suspension. The Eels also get a forward back in Manu Ma’u, one of their best in the first two weeks, he pushes David Gower to 18th man.

For the Eels to win they need to focus on their defence. They are scoring an average of less than 15 a game while the Tigers are at nearly double that without the use of a daytime, dry track. If it comes down to a shoot-out it will be the Tigers that have the answers with an attack that has clicked so well over the opening three rounds.

The Tigers will need to focus on an 80 minute performance. If they let the Eels in, they will punish them and they may find it harder to score points against a quality opposition, they don’t want to win twice, if they can run up a lead early, the Eels are yet to score more than 20 points and may find solace in a good lead. Farah needs to add a dimension in defence, and not inhibit the firing attack of Moses, Tedesco and Brooks.

It is a mouth-watering clash that will hopefully come down to the wire. The Tigers have won this fixture the past two seasons but I can’t go past the Eels after their best start to the season in a very long time.

Eels by 6.
