Aussie shooter wins final but picks up bronze medal

Australian 50m Prone Rifle competitor Warren Potent recovered from an uncharacteristically weak qualification score to win the finals series and secure the Bronze medal.

The gold went to Artur Ayvazian of the Ukraine and Silver to Matthew Emmons of the U.S. Potent was ranked No.1 in the world going into the Olympics.

In qualifying Potent was ranked 4th with 595/600.

In Olympic competition the qualifying series score is a round of 60 shots each with a value of 10. The top 8 competitors advance to the final series which is a 10 shot round. For the finals the 10.4mm 10 ring is divided into tenths, thus a ‘perfect’ shot is worth 10.9. The qualifying and final scores are added together to establish the final placings.
