A very costly drink for Symonds

Andrew Symonds’ drunken rant about McCullum live on air has cost him a $4,000 fine but he has escaped suspension. The ACB’s decision has come as a shock to many fans, as this is not the first time Symonds has pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable off field.

Some fans have gone as far as questioning whether or not his dodging harsher punishment is because Symonds features as a face for many of the ACB’s major sponsor’s ad campaigns.

Symonds’ most recent misdemeanor involved an off colour comment about the character of the New Zealand wicket keeper, McCullum, after he signed on to play for the Blues in the Domestic Cricket Competition.

His comment, which has been replayed over and over again by radio stations across the country, was said to “still be funny no matter how many times it was listened to” by one radio host.

The question remains, though, was Symonds’ punishment adequate?
