Phil Waugh to captain Barbarians against Wallabies

Wallabies stalwart Phil Waugh has been appointed captain of a star-studded Barbarians side against Australia in Saturday night’s rugby union match at Sydney Football Stadium.

Named alongside flanker Waugh in the invitational team is fellow Australian Rocky Elsom, who will line-up at No.8.

League convert Sonny Bill Williams has been chosen at outside centre.

The Barbarians team includes a third Australia in halfback Chris Whitaker.

Williams and fellow New Zealander and lock Paul Tito are the only uncapped players in a powerful multi-national side.

The run-on side includes All Blacks in five-eighth Luke McAlister, flanker Jerry Collins, lock Chris Jack and prop Clarke Dermody.

Players from Ireland, England, Samoa, South Africa and France have also been named in the starting side by coach Dai Young.

The bench includes All Blacks halfback Justin Marshall, who won 81 Test caps and former England captain and forward Martin Corry, who will be playing his final game of top flight rugby.

Reserve back Glen Jackson is the third uncapped player in a squad totalling 775 Test appearances.
