Torah Bright and Holly Crawford head the Australian charge in the women’s snowboard halfpipe at the Winter Olympics on Thursday (Fri AEDT).
Bright is one of the gold medal favourites while Crawford is in good form and could get a medal if things go her way.
In bobsleigh … brakeman Duncan Harvey has been told to rest after suffering bruising in a training crash with team-mate Chris Spring.
Harvey underwent x-rays and a CT scan after the sled crashed on turn five and the athletes and the machine slid down the track Wednesday evening.
Doctors gave him the all clear but he has suffered some bruising to the lower back and has been told to rest, a team spokesman said.
Six other teams crashed during the session.
Spring was not injured and he will return to the track on Thursday with Anthony Ryan stepping in as brakeman.
The two-man bob event is on Saturday evening.
In other Thursday action ,Emma Lincoln-Smith, Melissa Hoar and Anthony Deane are in the skeleton, Sophie Muir Competes in women’s speed skating and Alex Almoukov in the men’s 20km individual biathlon.
Bright and Crawford will try to squeeze out a strong American contingent that includes two previous Games gold medallists in Kelly Clark and Hannah Teter and silver medal winner Gretchen Bleiler at Cypress Mountain.
The Chinese are also strong in the event.
It’s understood Bright’s parents are making a surprise trip to watch her compete.
The dominant rider on the pro tour in recent years, Bright is one of the favourites while Crawford is not without a chance of pinching a medal after strong form on the World Cup tour.
