In another thrilling finale, the West Tigers have been temporarily spared the official role as the 2010 chokers. Scores looked like they would be leveled, to send the game sent into Golden-Point extra-time, with just minutes remaining on the clock, after the Tigers once again held a commanding lead.

To the Tigers rescue came one of the worst known kicks for goal in finals football after a penalty for a high shot was awarded 10 metres in from the uprights and no more than 30 metres out.

Up stepped Jarrod Croker, who has been kicking with nearly an 85 percent success rate since taking over the duties for the Raiders in round 15.

The shot at goal sailed well wide of the sticks, and Croker was left to console with the turf in an agonizing display of self pity, on a remarkable night in the Nation’s Capital.

It’s now official that St George Illawarra has been relieved of their nickname, with the Tigers handed the official team chokers title after capitulating in the back end of both finals games over the past week.

Jarrod Croker was also officially named “Choker Croker” by the entire 27,652 strong crowd, who braved the near freezing conditions at Bruce Stadium.
