Warren Young has presented to The Roar a new Rugby League concept which was pitched to the NRL in a two hour meeting. Warren’s concept is available for you to consider and we welcome your comments.

More Games For TV / Less Burden On Rep Players / Every Player Available For Every Premiership Game
By Warren Young

This year I created a proposal and supplement for the NRL to try to attain a better TV rights deal by restructuring the competition.

The idea behind this concept is to create a competition that doesn’t disadvantage teams during the State of Origin, reduces the wear and tear on representative players, and excites fans.

I have created a round robin competition during Origin to be held over a 5 week period.

It is also designed to create maximum TV revenue with fresh ideas, a new competition, options for more advertising revenue, and still maintaining tradition in the greatest game of all.

Teams are split into 4 Conferences, each with 5 teams: Sydney East, Sydney West, Provincial North, Provincial South.

Central Coast Bears and a second Brisbane team are included, leaving two spaces. I propose the 19th and 20th teams will be made up by Qld and NSW U20’s.

Two Semis and a Final are to be played in the fifth week. Origin is to be held over 3 consecutive weeks, followed by a ANZAC Test.

This will create full rounds of rugby league during the origin season.

Calender:

Round 1 to 10
Origin and Origin Cup Series (Round Robin)
Round 11 to 20
Finals

I have also created a Second-Tier comp to be made up from the remaining contracted players and the rest of the numbers to be made up by U20’s (G220).

Each round has also been carefully examined with the inclusion of two rivalry rounds, a special wild card round, and considers the salary cap, All Stars games, Internationals, and the World Club Challenge in a comprehensive study.

I have received positive feedback from some clubs and I’d be interested to hear fans thoughts.
