What a shot from Michael van Lingen!
With two days to go, England lead by 208 runs with 3 wickets in hand. I thought it would be fun to try and find the Roars best pundit by asking you all to make a prediction on the outcome of this match.
I’ll begin the speculation straight away. It is likely that England will add at least another 50 runs leaving Australia with a deficit of 250 – 300 with 5 sessions remaining.
The pressure will be on the new Captain to instruct his men to not take chances but to bat with discipline, avoiding the current Australian habit of playing like one-day cricketers. They must avoid trying to score off good balls and not to worry if the scoring rate slows to a crawl.
England have made it a habit to try and restrict the scoring rate, thereby tempting the Australian batsman into dangerous strokes.
Clearly, if Australia can’t win, they must avoid defeat, or is a win still possible? What can Australia do in 5 sessions?
Obviously, things don’t look good for the Aussies. We must bat with caution or risk an innings defeat, with the series a shocking 1-3 loss to the English.
So, Roar pundits, let’s hear your predictions.
Here’s mine:
Australia will survive until lunch or early afternoon on day 4 and leave England to get less than 100 runs. Sadly, they will knock these off easily and win by 8 wickets.
