Next month, the rugby league community will celebrate the second Indigenous All Stars match. It was a magnificent way to start the 2010 NRL season, with a game that meant so much to so many people.

The general consensus among fans is the game needs to spread its wings. Expansion has been the big topic for the last 18 months and the work done from the Bears has been nothing short of outstanding. Without going over the top, the Reds bid is solid and built around the community – notes taken from the successful Gold Coast Titans model.

If we want to not only gauge the support of expansion areas but get them hooked on the game, we not only need to take NRL matches there but show them the best of the best, which means turning February into the All Stars month.

The annual Indigenous match at Robina is pencilled in for the next few years, but with two more games it could be expanded to a round robin concept staged in different cities.

What better way to get into the hearts and minds of people who generally wouldn’t see a live rugby league than to truly show what a great celebration these games are?
