The Legends of Origin game last week was a great occasion, with $450 000 raised for flood affected areas, 18,000 people at Parramatta treated to one great game played by some of the greats, and the telecast rating over 270,000 viewers for Fox Sports.

The 272,000 average viewers means it almost doubled the dominant summer television sport, the KFC Twenty/20 Big Bash.

Elsewhere, we know that Jarryd Hayne was the first target for the AFL’s Greater Western Sydney franchise. After Parramatta’s grand final loss, it lingered on for a few weeks before he signed a mega four-year extension with the club. But it seems the AFL is still on Hayne’s mind.

In what will be exciting news for Kevin Sheedy and Andrew Demetriou, Hayne has said he will closely watch the progress of Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau in the AFL and won’t rule out a code switch after 2013.

After a horror 2010 season and less than exciting additions to the playing roster for 2011, this is just the cherry on the rotting cake for Eels fans.

Meanwhile, I don’t know about the rest of you rugby league fans but I have a serious problem. I cannot seem to commit to a top eight. Never mind trying to work out who will finish where in the top eight, I’m struggling to decide which teams will get in there.

After much debate, I think the following teams will be in the running: Dragons, Tigers, Bulldogs, Roosters, Souths, Storm, Broncos, Titans, Warriors and Raiders. Honorable mentions go to the Knights, Cowboys and Panthers.

Sorry Sharks, Eels and Eagles fans, I’m really struggling to see your teams doing much this season.

As for some other predictions, Benji Marshall will not only to be the face of the NRL but he holding up the trophy on grand final night as the Clive Churchill medalist, while Ricky Stuart will lead the Blues to a famous hard-fought Origin series win.
