Crusaders and Highlanders game cancelled - points share sham

I’m sorry but I disagree with the way that the SANZAR have dealt with the Crusaders Hurricanes game. They have decided that the game be cancelled and the points be shared by both teams.

I feel sympathy for the players, their families and everyone else in Christchurch (I also have friends and family living there), but what happens now that the points have been shared.

In my opinion there should have been 2 options:

1. Reschedule the game or
2. The team who has decided not to play forfeits.

This is a tournament after all.

From a rugby perspective (taking out all human emotion of the recent quakes), it sits very well with both teams to have a weekend off. Crusaders regroup after looking like the whipping boys last Saturday, and Nonu’s 1 week suspension is over.

What happened to the old “they showed their strength through adversity” and “the human factor beat the quake” headlines that they so love after a sporting event that followed a quake or flood?

Additionally, what happens if the Hurricanes miss out on the finals by 2 points or the Crusaders make the finals by 2 points. Will the Hurricanes or a team which misses out ask for a review of the decision?

I hope that it doesn’t come to that, but can see a dark cloud hovering over this decision in about 14 weeks time.

What do other Roarers think?
