Super Rugby hosted some dynamic games and upsets to throw tipping out the window for many. A look at the games over Saturday night.
Chiefs vs Rebels:
Lelia Masaga has scored a double to help his team slaughter the Rebels at home 38-10. Sitiveni Sivivatu and Sona Taumalolo also scored as the Cheifs collected a bonus point along with the win.
Gareth Delve was the only try-scorer for the Rebels as Danny Cipriani converted his goals to put the Melbourne-based team on the board.
Brumbies vs Reds:
Despite a scoring four tries to one, the Brumbies could not defeat the Reds at home.
Quade Cooper scored 26 of his team’s 31 points as the Reds achieved their first ever vicotry in the nation’s capital. Scott Higginbotham dived over for the first try as Stephen Moore, Pat McCabe, Ita Vaea and Ben Alexander all touched down for the Brumbies.
Force vs Sharks:
A controversial red card to Rory Sidey for a spear tackle saw the Force disappoint in front of their home crowd. Sidey went off on the 18th minute as the Sharks followed up with 4 tries to finish the game 39-12.
The Force failed to score a try in the whole match and were reduced to 13 men when Nick Cummins was sin binned. Patrick Lambie scored 17 points including a try, 4 conversions and 2 penalty goals to assist his side’s victory.
Stormers vs Cheetahs:
Both sides failed to score a single try as the whole game was on penalty shoot-out mode. In the end, 7 penalty goals to Peter Grant saw the Stormers win by 6 points 21-15. Besides all the penalties it was amazing no palyer was sent off or sin binned.
Bulls vs Highlanders:
The last match of the week for the Super Rugby competition saw the Highlanders pull of the biggest upset as they defeated the Bulls at home 35-28.
It was the first time in 21 matches (almost 2 seasons) that the Bulls had been beaten at home. Kade Poki scored a double for the Highlanders as Adam Thompson and Josh Bekhuis also scored.
The Bulls managed to grab a bonus point, but were unable to come out with a win in the end.
