Basketball Australia is currently in talks with the NBA of the USA to begin a partnership of sorts. As part of a new arrangement, the nation’s head basketball offices will push for easier access for NBL players and teams to work with the NBA D-League and for the NBA bring games to Australia.

The move aims to bring a pre-season game to the region within the next few years.

Oceania is the only major continent without NBA preseason games. Countries such as England, Brazil, Italy, China and Russia have all hosted games this past pre-season.

With Australian players Andrew Bogut, Patty Mills, and David Anderson all making names for themselves in the NBA, the league is trying to capitalise on the game’s improving status in Australia.

If games were to be played in Australia, the game would be boosted on all levels; from interest in junior play to increased NBL ticket sales, the sport would gain major national interest.

The games would likely be held between two NBA teams on back-to-back nights with Milwaukee and Portland likely options with their Australian players (Bogut, Mills).
