The New Orleans Hornets have had to endure a major blow to their playoffs hopes with starting power-forward David West going down with a serious knee injury.

In an overtime win Friday, West suffered the season ending ACL tear.

West is currently the team’s number one scorer, averaging 18.9 per game, and number two in rebounding with 7.6 a game. West is also second in the team for blocks per game.

The absence of West will hurt the Hornets badly as his pick-and-pop play with Chris Paul is one of their go-to moves.

The Hornets are hoping mid-season acquisition Carl Landry will be able to fill the void left by the injured power-forward.

Landry was acquired from Sacramento at the trade deadline in an exchange for second year guard Marcus Thornton.

Landy, who started most of the season for the Kings should fit well in the starting line up, but his move from the bench will be a big hit to the second unit.

The Hornets, who are 41-31 with ten games to go, are currently sitting seventh in the Western Conference with a first round matchup with the Lakers the cards.

If New Orleans suffers a few losses in the last ten games, then they are at risk of losing their spot to both Houston and Phoenix, who are sitting three and four games behind respectively.
